The NYC Liberty Games will return with junior volleyball July 21-26, 2016. The NYC Liberty Games is a tournament system for NYC in partnership with NY Metro AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) that will grow to encompass multiple sports under its umbrella. The tournament’s themes “Fab to Fierce” (girls) and “Contenders to Champs” (boys) explores the range of traits that young athletes possess – from their on-court “game faces” to their interests in education, community, self-awareness and fun. The NYC Liberty Games focuses on giveback programming while providing a unique competition opportunity.

The tournament’s driving force, Ms. Whitney, also was the mastermind behind the North Atlantic Volleyball Showcase (NAVS). A combine that has a nine-year track record of exhibiting the skills of female high school volleyball players in front of Division 1, 2 and 3 college coaches. To date NAVS has been instrumental in facilitating $32.5 million in scholarships to college-bound young women.

The NYC Liberty Games will host girls’ volleyball this summer, showcasing their mission of creating an environment for young female athletes, ages 14 -18, that enables them to recognize their potential while embracing the totality of who they are – BOTH Fab & Fierce. At the heart of the successful implementation, is the partnership with the regional office of AAU - NY Metro led by Jim Fox. As one of the only national sporting organizations to celebrate the Student Athlete with its prestigious annual Sullivan Award it is a natural alignment to the programming that the NYC Liberty Games is vested in providing.

The NYC Liberty Games offers the teams the ability to play and make friends with girls from all over the world. Encompassing education, competition and global friendships all wrapped in fun. For 5 days in July the girls will experience inspirational and aspirational programming. Beginning with a Leadership Symposium entitled “My FIERCE Future” - STEAM focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), it exposes the young women to global insights and career pathways from industry movers and shakers. “MakeKnowns NOT MakeOvers” is a program that celebrate self, and global community awareness is addressed with an exclusive screening of the award winning documentary “Girl Rising.”

“We hope to provide the girls with tools to be inspired by, lessons with which to build their own stories and professional achievements,” explains Ms. Whitney. To top off the week the closing ceremony “FAB Night Out” is a private event built exclusively for the girls in a cool NYC Location, complete with red carpet and paparazzi.” “We have partnered with restaurants, sight-seeing companies, Broadway theater ticket brokers and museums to make this a lifetime experience for each participant.”
