RECAP: 2015 AAU BOYS’ NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lake Buena Vista (June 25,2015) - Earlier this week, the boys were in town for the 2015 AAU Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships! Competition kicked off at Orlando Sports Center on June 19th and two days later, champions were crowned. Boys ranging from 14U to 18U played against the best of the best teams from around the nation to try to take home the gold. Teams traveled from Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Jersey, Indiana, Hawaii, New York, Louisiana, Texas and even Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and British Columbia!

14U
In a 13 team pool, eight teams made it to the championship division. Ocean Bay, A5 Mizuno, 352 Elite and Orlando Gold were the four teams that made it into the semi-finals. A5 Mizuno and 352 Elite defeated their opponents in three sets to move on and face each other in the championship match. 352 Elite took the first set 25-23, but A5 Mizuno wasn’t going down without a fight, winning the second set, 25-23. 352 Elite jumped out to a quick lead and cruised to a 15-5 win in the third set to claim the gold!

15U
After the quarterfinals, CTIV, Ponce Pumas, Vaqueros and Orlando Gold advanced to the semifinals. CTIV and Orlando Gold defeated their opponents in two sets to move on to the championship game. CTIV cruised to victory in the first set, 25-15, but Orlando Gold made the second set a bit harder, but eventually fell to CTIV 28-26.

16U
Force, Ocean Bay, Patriotas and TVA were the four teams to make it to the semifinals in the 16U division. Force both cruised to a victory in the semis to advance to the championship game, but TVA had a little more of a fight, but eventually won in three sets after winning the third 18-16.  In the championship game, Force won both sets to grab the gold, but TVA scored a total of 43 points in both sets, making it a tense game for both teams.

 

17U
It was a long day for Orlando Gold in the 17U division. They started their day at 8am and kicked off the championship day four hours later against Vaqueros. Vaqueros also had a long day, starting at 9am and continuing on to the championship round against Orlando. It was a close championship match, but Orlando Gold came out on top in two sets, claiming the gold for the host city.

18U
VM 18M and Coastal 18N were the top two teams in the 18U division. The two faced off in the last game of the afternoon after beating out 12 other top teams. Both teams went to three sets in their semifinal games, but VM-18M took the gold over Coastal 25-19 and 25-21.
