HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA. - The 28th edition of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) of the United States Girls' Junior National Beach Volleyball Championships took place in Huntington Beach, CA this year from July 19-23 at Huntington State Beach and crowned six new national champions including presenting the Dr. Roger J. Goudy Award to MB Sand which recognizes the AAU National Beach Volleyball Club Champions. A full field of teams in 2021 after last season's limited entry event at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.
Mabyn Thomas (Southlake, TX) was awarded the 2021 AAU Beach Volleyball Player of the Year (POY) at the National Championships. Since 2000, only two other athletes from outside the state of California have won the award. Following in the footsteps of 2016 POY winner Sammy Slater, Thomas has committed to the University of Southern California (USC). While choosing a school, Thomas knew she wanted to attend a university with competitive volleyball program, making USC her number one choice.
The Player of the Year award was not the only title to be given out. 2021 is the inaugural year of the Dr. Roger J. Goudy Award. This award is presented to the Club Champion at the AAU National Championships of Beach Volleyball in honor of late AAU President/CEO and longtime AAU Volleyball National Chair for his tireless dedication, commitment, and support to growing the sport of volleyball in the AAU and around the world. MB Sand Volleyball Club from Manhattan Beach, CA. was the inaugural Dr. Roger J. Goudy Award recipient.
