RECAP: 10U-13U NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sixteen 10u, 11u, 12u and 13u teams entered championship day looking for that coveted AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championship title. GVA looked to carry over their dominance from last year’s national championships as they took home national titles in 10u, 11u and 12u Open divisions. OVA, Fusion, and Vaqueras also looked to defend national titles in their respective age groups. So how did the field fare? Check out the results below.

10u: Vaqueras, 2014 10u runner-ups, found themselves in the 10u final for the second year in a row, this time versus Olimpicas. Vaqueras cruised to an easy 25-13 first set victory, but saw Olimpicas claw back to take the next two sets 26-24, 15-13 and the 10u AAU National Championship title.

11u: GVA Juan entered the match as the reigning 10u national champions and looked to fill the shoes of sister team GVA Fonseca, who took home the 11u national title last year. The match was set. GVA Juan versus Gainesville Juniors. In the end, GVA Juan took home their second national title in two years after defeating Gainesville Juniors 25-10, 25-20.

12u Open: Reigning 12u Open champions GVA Alex took on fellow Puerto Rican team Vaqueras in quest of the club’s second title of the day. Vaqueras got out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-18, but GVA fought back to take sets two and three 28-26, 15-12 and defend their 12u Open national title.

12u Club: Tribe Elite and ECJ Elite took the court in search of the 12u Club national title. Tribe Elite jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-28, but ECJ Elite would answer back to push it to a third set. In the end, Tribe Elite clinched the 2015 12u Club National Championship after defeating ECJ Elite 25-18, 17-25. 15-10.

12u Classic: Tampa Elite and JVC Elite took center court for the 12u Classic National Championship match. Tampa Elite defeated JVC in straight sets (25-12, 25-17) to be crowned the 2015 AAU 12u Classic National Champions.

13u Open: Avoli found themselves in the 13u Open national championship match for the second year in a row, hoping to better their runner-up finish from last year, but they had their work cut out for them against a dominant OVA team. In the end, OVA appeared too much for Avoli, as they defeated them in straight sets (25-21, 25-13) to take home the 2015 AAU 13u Open National Championship.

13u Club: OVA entered the day as the defending national champions, but would they be able to take home a second consecutive title? Guyanilla Ladies hoped to upend the reigning national champs, but fell short in the end. OVA defeated Guyanilla Ladies 25-23, 25-15 for their second 13u national title.

13u Classic: Reigning national champs Club Fusion took the court versus Mizuno Northern Lights in the 13u Classic National Championship. Northern Lights would hop out to an early lead after defeating Club Fusion 25-22 in the first set. Like reigning national champions do, they fought back, taking the next two sets 25-22, 15-13 to defeat Northern Lights and take home the 2015 AAU 13u Classic National Championship for a second consecutive year.
